The Early Modern Celebration, begun in 2011, is an initiative fostering dialogue between faculty members, graduate students and postdocs from various disciplines in early modern studies at both the University of Toronto and York University, and occasionally other southern Ontario universities. The biannual EMC is a day-long symposium at which twenty scholars offer ten-minute “lightning talks” about their research in panels followed by a discussion period, and a closing reception at the end of the day. It’s a unique community-building opportunity for a wide range of scholars to network and to get to know about one another.
