CRRS Working Group: Revisiting the Pastoral
What do the pastoral genre and pastoral mode look like today? Both our current condition of multiple and overlapping crises, global and local, and the emergence of new ways of speaking to and with traditional objects of scholarly study urge scholars to re-read the practice of pastoral across multiple arts and media. We will look at key examples of the pastoral from the classical period and the Renaissance, as well as some critical treatments of it, both older and current, to inquire into possible places for the pastoral in the various worlds of current critical early modern studies.
